Why It Is Important to Build a Culture Where Everyone is Seen and Appreciated
  • The Great Resignation. In a study done by Zety in 2021, 65% quit because they didn’t feel valued by their managers.
  • When employees feel unseen, their engagement drops. Low engagement leads to low productivity. The disengaged employees can even negatively influence the more engaged ones.
  • A culture of appreciation can potentially increase the company’s revenue.  In a study by Harvard Business Professor James Heskett, companies that exhibit the culture of appreciation had a revenue growth of 682%.
  • Being seen and appreciated is a basic human need.
  • Unlock your company’s hidden potential and inspire fearless possibilities in your team (e.g. increase team engagement, productivity, creativity) by building a culture where everyone is seen and appreciated.

The Power of Gratitude
videoimg

How do you keep your team highly engaged without spending tons of money? Building a culture of gratitude is key. This keynote will help employees gain perspective, inspire them to appreciate where they are, and share their appreciation with their colleagues, managers, and their company. The result? A happier, more productive, and highly engaged working environment.

Lead with Care
videoimg

According to Gallup, 75% of the reason why people quit their jobs is because of their managers. No matter how competent a manager or leader is, if the employees don’t feel the manager cares for them, they either get demotivated which then lowers their productivity, or they quit their jobs. In this keynote, leaders will gain practical and powerful ways on how they can show authentic care for their team members, which then leads to happier, more engaged, and more productive teams.

Mission Happiness in the Workplace
videoimg

Loneliness leads to poor health and poor performance. When employees are happier, they tend to be more inspired, creative, and productive. What does it take to build a happier and a more engaged workplace? This is what this keynote is all about.

Money Matters at Work
videoimg

Let’s face it. When we’re worried over money concerns, we can’t focus at work and our productivity suffers. This talk will inspire and empower employees to take charge of their finances so they can eliminate financial worries and be happier and more productive at work. This keynote will be one of the most beautiful gifts you can give your team members. Sha is the perfect person to give this talk because she was once buried in debts during her stint as a bank employee. Today, her finances are in order. She can empathize with those who are struggling in their finances and she can help them get out of the financial mess they are in. Don’t let money issues get in the way to becoming the most joyful and productive team member you can be.

[Motivational Speaker] When life throws you lemons…
Apr, 26 2024

It’s been a while. I missed sending newsletters for two weeks. I’ll share why in my story.
Let’s dive right into our Story, Highlight, and call to Action for the week 🙂

STORY

More than 5 weeks ago, I tripped on a supposedly flat walkway that had an unforeseen step. I fractured my foot and my doctor advised me to immobilize it for 6-8 weeks.

It was a bummer not being able to stand up on my feet, walk, drive, and dance. Bound to a wheelchair for weeks, I could sulk or throw a possibility party.

I chose the latter. I ordered 17 books on Amazon, books by Ivy League professors and legendary researchers, plus a few books by my favorite authors. Can’t wait to read those books!!!

I also wrote a book while in a wheelchair, completing about 90% within two weeks. This is the reason why I wasn’t able to send newsletters for two weeks. My apologies. 🙂

Less than 3 weeks to go before I can walk again without crutches or a walker. I can’t wait to be on stage again to unleash your inner child and ignite possibilities in leaders and organizations!!!🔥

HIGHLIGHT (Lesson)

“When faced with an obstacle, you can choose to sulk or throw a possibility party! :)”

Call to ACTION

What obstacles have you encountered recently?

What possibilities and gifts can you uncover from that experience?

I wish you fearless possibilities 🙂

P.S.1 The walkway where I tripped? Applying what I teach on #CompassionateLeadership, I’ve been in private talks with the developer and they have installed changes — yellow paint, lights, and a ‘caution’ sign — to ensure everyone’s safety moving forward.

[Motivational Speaker] TEDx Talk : What Math can teach us about igniting possibilities
Apr, 04 2024

Hope you had a wonderful and meaningful Holy Week and Easter celebration.

Let’s dive right into our Story, Highlight, and call to Action for the week 🙂

STORY

When I was in elementary and high school, my favorite subject was Math. If I wanted to relax, I would solve Math problems. The more difficult the problems were, the more excited I got.

Do you love Math, too? If yes, that’s great!
If you were traumatized by it, let me prove to you that you are good at Math.

Let’s solve this Math problem.

If x + 2 = 5, what is the value of x?

Did you get it? I bet you did!
See? You’re good at Math!!!

How you solved that Math problem gives a glimpse into how to solve any problem and ignite possibilities in your life and profession.

I want to repeat that for emphasis: The process you used to solve that problem is the same process you can use to solve any problem and ignite possibilities.

This was what I talked about in my second TEDx talk.

I shared a simple yet powerful formula to solve any problem and ignite possibilities.

Possibilities like…

  • Is it possible to write a book and launch it in a few months even if you’re not a writer and you’re busy?
  • Is it possible to speak with confidence and competence in a few weeks even if you’ve always been so scared of speaking?
  • It is possible to make your employees highly engaged and excited to go to work?
  • Is it possible to be a recording artist even if you’re not a singer? Ehem! Ehem!
  • Is it possible to lead with care and drive results for your company?

And so much more!

And the answer is a resounding YES!!!

The key is the formula I talked about in my second TEDx talk. You can watch it here.

Here it is:

Accept + Believe + Solve = Fearless Possibilities

Step 1: Accept the givens.

Step 2: Believe there is a solution
Step 3: Find ways to solve the problem.

What I discovered is this: “Possibilities are simply problems waiting to be ignited.”

If you have a problem right now, I genuinely want to congratulate you.

If you apply the ABS formula I shared in my TEDx talk, you can turn that problem into a possibility.

I was not a writer. Today, I’ve written 15 books and I teach book writing to aspiring authors who are not writers.
I was shy and introverted. Today, I speak globally and I teach individuals and C-suite leaders how to speak with confidence and competence.

What were once problems became possibilities not just for me but for other people as well.

An unexpected twist
Three weeks ago, I was walking normally when I suddenly tripped because of an unforeseen step.
I incurred a fracture in my 5th metatarsal and my orthopedic advised me to immobilize my foot for 6-8 weeks.

My foot is currently in a cast and I have to rely on someone to wheel me when I need to go somewhere.

Imagine not being able to walk, or sit down normally without elevating your foot.
To move around, I use a wheelchair, a walker, or crutches.

It’s a bummer to be immobile for 6-8 weeks. I had to reschedule my travels, teaching classes at AIM, and some of my programs, among others.
I had to miss a TEDx event in Europe which I dreamed of attending since 2023.

Applying the ABS formula, I’m already seeing how this “limited mobility” problem is igniting possibilities!

I felt very loved and cared for and I developed a newfound courage and an even greater appreciation for mobility.

Here were some ways I felt loved and cared for:

  1. That night when I tripped, my brother and sister-in-law accompanied me to the E.R. and we were there until 3 AM.
  2. Family and friends came over to bring food and join me for lunch or dinner.
  3. Friends and clients sent care packages.
  4. A client was kind enough to move our training to a month later.
  5. My cousin and cousin-in-law called me up and showed their support.
  6. When I went home to the province for the Holy Week, my family moved all our meals to the 2nd floor since my bedroom is on the 2nd floor.
  7. A friend lent me her crutches because the crutches I ordered would arrive late.
  8. Family and friends accompanied me to my doctor’s appointment and x-rays.

I didn’t ask them to do things for me. They’re just so sweet and caring.

Here’s another thing: The well-known developer admitted that the walkway where I tripped indeed posed a hazard. Two people almost tripped that night I tripped.

I imagined…

What if the person who got injured is a security guard who is also a breadwinner?

Can he tell his boss,
“Boss, I can’t walk. Can I work from home?”

Or if she’s a cleaner. For sure, she can’t move her work to Zoom.

This is why I’ve been in private talks with this well-known developer. I won’t stop until they address this concern and make sure all their properties are safe. As an act of goodwill, I won’t disclose their brand publicly so as not to damage their reputation. I am hopeful our private talks are enough to move them to act compassionately and with accountability.

HIGHLIGHT (Lesson)

“Problems are simply possibilities waiting to be ignited.”

[Motivational Speaker] Ever tried speaking but felt like no one was listening?
Mar, 19 2024

Hope you’re having a great day so far.

Let’s dive right into our Story, Highlight, and call to Action for the week 🙂

STORY

Ever tried speaking but felt like no one was listening? Let me share a story where I learned a crucial lesson.

When I was in my 20s, I was part of a training team for a whole day session at a university. We were informed the audience would be administrators and staff, so we tailored our training for them. To our surprise, the attendees were professors, mostly with Ph.D.s, not the administrative staff we expected.

During my 1.5-hour slot, I scrambled to adjust my examples to better suit the teaching crowd, but connecting with them was challenging.

Reflecting over dinner with the school president and my fellow trainers, we all shared similar feelings of disconnect. We later found out the professors had indicated they wanted to learn “nothing” from the pre-training survey, which partially explained their disengagement.

Still, I learned a very important lesson as a speaker that day:

“It’s not the audience’s job to listen; it’s the speaker’s job to make them WANT to listen.”

Holding the mic doesn’t automatically earn you an audience’s attention. Similarly, being a leader, CEO, or department head doesn’t guarantee your team’s focus during meetings or your keynote speeches at annual events. In today’s world of short attention spans, captivating your audience is essential.

This is why it is very important to learn the art of speaking and capturing your audience’s attention.

Every time I give talks, I pose a fun challenge for myself: That is, to make the audience want to listen to me without telling them to listen to me.

For example, I once gave a talk in front of 900 executives seated on round tables, with more than 50% of their backs turned against the stage. The fun challenge I posed myself was to make them want to turn their chairs towards the stage because they would find listening to my talk the most fun and valuable thing to do at that moment.

After a few minutes on stage, I could see that the senior executives turned their chairs towards the stage. The plan worked!

As the program director of The Eloquent Leader at the Asian Institute of Management, my mission is to capture the interest of senior managers and C-suite leaders from the beginning to the end of each session.

I’m glad it was successful!

HIGHLIGHT (Lesson)

“Speaking is more than a skill; it’s an art of engagement.”

Call to ACTION
